Life in Zhongshan, China

A Little About Where I Live

So I am living in a city called Zhongshan that is in the very southern part of China in the province of Guangdong. It is pretty close to Hong Kong (although we aren't allowed to visit because of visa restrictions). The population of the city is about 1.4 million. The city has different districts and I live in a district called Kaiyin which is about 20 mins from the downtown city. The school I will be teaching at is the Shiqi school located in the Shiqi district in downtown Zhongshan. My neighborhood here is very nice! I feel like I am in a tropical paradise. My community is gated and their are security guards, and the apartments are very high rise! At least on the outside.

I guess they are fairly nice on the inside as well but I wouldn't say I am living in luxury. One problem here is we have cockroach infestations! We are still trying to figure out how to get rid of them other than just squishing them but lets just say I am very glad I am unaware of what is crawling all over me while I sleep. Our apartment has a living area, kitchen, two bathrooms and three bedrooms. There are two beds in each room but since we have 5 girls I get to be the lucky one with my own room! I actually really enjoy having a room to myself! The beds are pretty hard but I just piled on blankets to help make it a little softer (since I won't be sleeping under them anyway since it is so HOT and HUMID). Our bathroom is not too bad either, but you have to hold the shower head while you shower- a little different than I am used to but not horrible. And hey it actually saves water because I only turn it on when I need to rinse.

So without further ado, here are some pictures of the beautiful place I live in!

So you can work out!

Bikes to rent- haven't figured out how to do that yet though-
besides I wouldn't trust biking as the drivers here are crazy

Not sure why they decorate all the tree trunks like it is Christmas...

Tropical paradise!!!
